Kitchen Cleaning Tips – This is No Place For Germs

Keeping your kitchen clean is one of the most important aspects of a clean house. Unlike the rest of the house, germs hanging out in the kitchen won’t just be stepped on by you and your family – you can actually end up eating them. For the sake of your health, keep these kitchen cleaning tips in mind.

1. Grease is the enemy

Nobody wants to get grease into their system. As much as oil is essential in cooking, it does the body way too much harm for us to ignore its presence in the things we put in our mouths. Did you know that cooking actually releases tiny particles of grease into the air? They stick onto any surface in the kitchen and can promote the build up of germs and bacteria.

Oven Buying Guide

If it were up to me, I’d have a stunning gas range from Viking. But it’s not up to me. My landlord and wallet make that decision, and they’re screaming “NO” so loudly you can probably hear it.

So it’ll be awhile before I’m in the market for a new oven, but if you’re ready to buy one, be prepared: There are a number of decisions to make before you fork over the cash. To guarantee your oven fits your needs, ask yourself these five questions:

1. How much room do I have to work with?
If your kitchen is short on space, consider purchasing a wall oven that’s separate from the burners. Splitting the two features can give you more flexibility in layout and often make the workflow of your kitchen a little smoother.

Once you’ve narrowed down where the new oven will sit, it’s important that you measure the space as exactly as possible. Depending on the measurements, this could narrow down your options significantly.

Wine Refrigerator – Guidelines To Choosing The Perfect One

A wine refrigerator may seem like a frivolous expense that only rich people and “wine snobs” would concern themselves with. But, in truth, if you enjoy entertaining and you enjoy wine, it can be a great addition to your home appliance collection-especially if you are someone who likes to collect and serve vintage wines. A “wine cooler” as this refrigerator is sometimes called, keeps the wine at an ideal storing and serving temperature. It is a lot less expensive and takes up a lot less space than a wine cellar, so it is affordable for even beginning wine enthusiasts.

Is It Different Than A Regular Refrigerator?

A wine refrigerator is different from your regular refrigerator in many important ways. This is why many people choose to get a special refrigerator for their wine. Your food refrigerator is kept at well below 50 degrees-this is well below the ideal temperature for storing wines. Also the refrigerator in your home is opened and closed several times each day which alters the temperature many times which is bad for wine storage. A wine refrigerator maintains the temperature at the perfect level for wine and it is not opened and closed several times every day.

Shopping for Kitchen Cabinets: Choosing the Right Kitchen Cabinet for your Price Range

Kitchen Cabinets are by and large the core of any kitchen. They can be highlighted by kitchen appliances such as the refrigerator, stove, cooktop, dishwasher and microwave, or these appliances can be modified to blend in by using panels that match your kitchen cabinets.

Shopping for kitchen cabinets can be intimidating, especially for a first time buyer. There are hundreds/thousands of major kitchen cabinet companies, and many more smaller custom kitchen cabinet shops where you can get any cabinet made from any species of wood that your mind can imagine. Add to that list the explosion of RTA Kitchen Cabinet importers, and the laminated cabinet manufacturers, and suddenly the list can be overwhelming. Not to mention the fact that higher price always means high quality in construction, or more features being available.

In the past, pricing had always been the way to categorize kitchen cabinets. Traditionally, tthe higher-quality cabinets simply cost more money. As I mentioned before, with more and more importers conforming to the KCMA (Kitchen Cabinet Manufacturers Association) building standards, some of the RTA Kitchen Cabinets or Stock kitchen cabinets can actually be a sturdier cabinet than the traditional, made to order cabinets. Regardless of what type of kitchen cabinet you decide to go with, it does not take much effort to spend tens of thousands of dollars on the actual kitchen cabinets.

Choosing the Right Kitchen Ventilation Systems is More Important Than You Think

One of the most overlooked areas of kitchen remodeling projects is kitchen ventilation system. Without proper kitchen ventilation, it is almost impossible to keep a kitchen clean and grease-free. More importantly, proper kitchen ventilation also improves indoor air quality by removing harmful cooking contaminants (including heat, steam, smoke, odor, and hazardous gases such as nitrogen dioxide and carbon monoxide generated by gas stoves) before they mix with the rest of the air in the home.

There are three basic factors to be considered when choosing a kitchen ventilation system – price, noise, and effectiveness/capacity. System effectiveness is often measured in the amount of air the system can remove per minute (CFM or cubic feet per minute). Obviously, system with larger CFM measures is often more effective in removing air and grease. For typical-sized kitchen in a four-bedroom house, the recommended minimum kitchen ventilation system capacity is 150 CFM.

Keep in mind, however, that there is often a trade-off between the noise level and system capacity. And, ventilation system capacity usually doesn’t tell the whole story about system effectiveness. Ventilation system effectiveness also depends on the draft type. Specifically, there are two major types of ventilation systems: Updraft Hoods and Downdraft Vents.
